Privacy policy
Al-Jisr — the web portal and the Android and iOS apps. Last updated 25 September 2026.
Al-Jisr helps people write, translate, read and transcribe Lisan ud-Dawat. This page says what we collect, why, who processes it, how long we keep it, and how to delete it.
What we collect
- Your account: your name, email address, ITS number, the password you choose (stored only as a secure hash), and, if you add them, your idara and role.
- What you create: the messages you send and the replies you receive in Chat, Manzoori and Translate; documents you upload to be translated or shared; photos and PDFs of pages you ask us to read; recordings of dictation, meetings and Quran Ikhtebar recitations; and the transcripts, minutes, grades, corrections and notes produced from them.
- Feedback: anything you send us, including replies you report.
- Usage: how many prompts, characters, minutes and pages you use each day, so that daily limits can be applied, and a record of administrative actions on accounts.
- Notifications: if you allow them, a push token for your device, so we can tell you when your minutes are ready, your pages have been read, or your account has been approved.
We do not use advertising, advertising identifiers or third-party analytics, and we do not sell or share your information for advertising.
What we use it for
- To provide the service you ask for: replying, translating, transcribing, reading pages and grading recitations.
- To run accounts: approving sign-ups, applying limits, and letting you reset your password.
- To improve the Lisan ud-Dawat model: grades, corrections and annotations given by our testers are used, with personal details removed, to evaluate and improve its answers.
Who processes it
- Our own server stores your account and everything above.
- Google Cloud (Vertex AI) runs the AI behind Al-Jisr (Google's Gemini models). It processes the text, documents, audio and images you submit, to produce replies, transcripts, minutes, translations, page readings and recitation marks. Google acts as our service provider under its Cloud data-processing terms: it processes your content only to produce the result, protects it to at least the standard described here, and does not use it to train its models. Your name, email address, ITS number and device identifiers are not sent to it. The app asks for your permission before you first use it, and you can withdraw that permission at any time under Account → Withdraw AI permission.
- Expo (and through it, Apple and Google) delivers push notifications to the app, if you allow them. A notification says what finished; it never contains your text.
How long we keep it
- Meeting and dictation recordings are deleted once they have been processed (24 hours after processing, if it failed). The transcript and minutes stay.
- Quran Ikhtebar recitations are kept for 30 days after the attempt, so a teacher can review a contested mark, and then deleted. Scores and feedback stay.
- Everything else — conversations, transcripts, minutes, read pages, files and your account — is kept until you delete it or delete your account.
Deleting your data
You can delete individual conversations, recordings and documents at any time. You can delete your whole account from the app (Account → Delete my account): this permanently removes your account and everything in it, including your files and recordings. It cannot be undone. A record that an account was deleted is kept, without your email address.
No longer have the app? Email mohammed.udaipurwala@jameasaifiyah.edu from the address you signed up with and ask for your account to be deleted. We delete it, and everything in it, within 30 days and reply to confirm.
Security
All traffic is encrypted in transit. In the app, your sign-in is kept in your device's secure storage (the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore). Access to your data is limited to you and to the Al-Jisr administrators who approve accounts and review feedback.
Children
Al-Jisr is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly approve accounts for them. Every account is approved individually by an administrator. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us below and we will delete it.
